Person of the Year announced… Cardi B Carpool Karaoke… Chance the Rapper on sabbatical… Mel B “severed” her hand… and Nicki Minaj goes Instagram official with sex offender
Time magazine has announced the 2018 Person of the Year. Last year, it was “The Silence Breakers” — a group of women and Terry Crews who all spoke out against sexual harassment and assault. This year, it’s a group of journalists Time has nicknamed “The Guardians.” The magazine says these are the people “who have taken great risks in pursuing the truth.” Among the reporters in this group is Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. This is the first year Time has chosen someone who is no longer alive. Now, when it comes to this year’s Reader Poll for Person of the Year, the Time’s “readers” chose BTS.

Chance the Rapper is on sabbatical so he can immerse himself in scripture. He posted on Instagram, “I’m going away to learn the Word of God which I am admittedly very unfamiliar with. I’ve been brought up by my family to know Christ but I haven’t taken it upon myself to really just take a couple days and read my bible. we all quote scripture and tell each other what God likes and doesn’t like but how much time do we spend as followers of Jesus to really just read and KNOW his Word….” Chance said he’s starting off with the first five books or so and plans to study the Bible in full, hoping that he can pass along what he learns to the next generation of men in his family. He also plans to give up smoking while he’s on this Biblical journey. Chance hasn’t said how long his sabbatical will last, but he is scheduled to perform a concert on December 20 in Chicago.

Mel B was supposed to be in LA for a court-ordered drug test yesterday, but she has a really good excuse for missing it. Mel was staying with a friend in London when she got up in the middle of the night and fell down the stairs. She claims she “severed” her hand and broke a couple of ribs. And just in case you were wondering if drugs or alcohol had anything to do with her fall, they did not. The hospital ran the tests before they could perform surgery and she was clean. She’s going to need some time to heal, so unfortunately, Mel had to cancel her book signing in NYC, as well as her co-hosting gig with Kathie Lee and Hoda today.

Nicki Minaj says we can all keep our opinions to ourselves. She’s being criticized because her current boyfriend, Kenny Petty — who was one of her high school boyfriends — is a registered sex offender. Back in 1995, Kenny pled guilty to the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl. But Nicki said it happened when he was 15 and they were in a relationship. TMZ’s reporting that sources close to Nicki say the girl’s mom filed the charges because she didn’t approve of him. But she’s not speaking out about the fact that Kenny was convicted of manslaughter and served 7 years in prison. However, sources say Nicki believes he’s matured since his time in prison and believes in giving people a second chance.
