PETA Calls for Boycott of ‘A Dog’s Purpose’

The People’s Choice Awards… “Will & Grace” returns… Ryan Murphy’s new project… Kanye called Jay Z to apologize… and PETA calls for boycott of ‘A Dog’s Purpose’

So the People’s Choice Awards are voted on by regular people, so sometimes the winners make you go “Huh?” But the people like who the people like! Among the big moments last night, Fifth Harmony performed for the first time as a quartet and also won Favorite Band. Jennifer Lopez took home her very first People’s Choice Award for her role on “Shades of Blue.” Niall Horan beat out Zayn Malik for Favorite Breakout Artist, but neither one of them was there. And because all the stars aligned last night, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears won Favorite Male and Female Artists. And Justin presented his good buddy Ellen DeGeneres with three awards — for Favorite Daytime TV Host, Animated Movie voice and Comedic Collaboration — giving her a record 20 People’s Choice Awards.

The cast of “Will & Grace” got together last year to encourage us all to vote. And I guess everybody loved it so much that NBC decided to bring the show back for 10 episodes for the 2017-18 season. “Will & Grace” debuted in 1998 and produced 194 episodes over eight seasons. The series finale in 2006 drew more than 18 million viewers.

TV’s favorite foursome is coming back.

E! News has confirmed that Ryan Murphy has optioned the rights to the book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President, and he’s turning it into season 4 of “American Crime Story.” Season 1 — “The People v. O.J. Simpson” — was a HUGE hit. Right now, they’re filming seasons 2 and 3 concurrently. The second season focuses on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The third is about the 1997 murder of Gianni Versace. But when season 4 rolls around, we get the scandalous story of President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky! Reportedly, they’re already talking to actresses who could play Monica and her friend, Linda Tripp. But apparently, Sarah Paulson is a shoe-in to play Hillary Clinton.

According to sources, Kim Kardashian was precariously close to leaving her marriage, but Kanye West convinced her to stay. A source told “Us Weekly” that Kim confessed to a friend that she wanted to end her arraign. But after Kanye was hospitalized in November for “temporary psychosis,” he swore to Kim that he would continue to receive intense therapy after he was released. Also, Kanye reportedly called Jay Z to apologize for slamming him and Beyonce during his Saint Pablo tour. The source said Jay was “very reasonable and understood that Kanye wasn’t feeling well when he made the remarks.” It looks like all is forgiven because Kim and Kanye took their kids over to Jay Z and Beyonce’s house for a visit.

If you got a little misty when you watched the previews for the movie “A Dog’s Purpose,” you may have flat-out cried if you saw the video TMZ posted yesterday of this poor German Shepherd named Hercules being forced into a pool with water splashing around like whitewater rapids, and then he’s shown struggling to stay afloat. Now PETA is calling for animal lovers to boycott the movie. In the movie, Hercules plays a dog named Bailey, which is voiced by Josh Gad. Josh posted on Facebook last night, “I signed on for a film that truly stands out as one of the most beautiful love letters to animals I have ever seen. Today, however, I saw a disturbing video that appears to show a scared German Shepherd being forced to perform a stunt on the set of this film.” Josh said that he wasn’t on the set when his happened and he doesn’t know any details, but he is “shaken and sad to see any animal put in a situation against its will.” The movie’s director tweeted he also wasn’t there when this scene was filmed, but said it was “unacceptable and would never happen with my knowledge.” But Amblin Entertainment says despite what this looks like, no coercion was used and the dog didn’t do anything against its will.

Did the filmmakers go too far?
