Weekend box office news… Verne Troyer passed away… Tribute to Avicii… Beyoncé’s repeat performance at Coachella… and Prince William & Kate Middleton welcome a baby boy
“A Quiet Place” was number one at the box office, earning another $22 million in its third week of release. “Rampage” was second with $21 million. Coming in third was the new Amy Schumer movie “I Feel Pretty” with $16.2 million. “Super Troopers” debuted in fourth with $14.7 million. And rounding out the top five was “Truth or Dare,” earning another $7.9 million in its second weekend.
Actor Verne Troyer passed away on Saturday at the age of 49. The cause of his death has not been released, but we do know that Verne suffered for years from depression and alcohol abuse. His family released a statement saying, “Over the years he’s struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much.” Verne was most famous for his roles in the Austin Powers movies. Mike Myers released a statement saying, “Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honor of working with him. It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed.”
Thousands gathered on in Stockholm on Saturday to pay tribute to their native son Avicii, who passed away on Friday at the age of 28. As his music played, the crowd danced and clapped and held their hands up in the shape of hearts. Avicii — whose real name was Tim Bergling — was found dead in Muscat, Oman, where he’d been vacationing. His cause of death hasn’t been revealed, but authorities there reportedly have conducted two autopsies and they say there is “no criminal suspicion.” Avicii’s body has been cleared to be taken back to Sweden so his family can bury him there. Avicii had his issues with alcohol. Back in 2012, he was hospitalized for acute pancreatitis due to his heavy drinking and eventually decided to live sober.
Beyoncé was back for a repeat performance at Coachella this weekend, and that’s exactly what has a lot of her fans upset with her. It was pretty much exactly the same. She did change up a couple of her outfits. And this weekend, J Balvin joined her for “Mi Gente,” which she played without him last weekend. But the only excitement came from her oopsie moment with her baby sister Solange. Beyonce tried to pick up Solange during “Get Me Bodied,” and they both went down! They ended up rolling on the stage, kicking their legs up like “We meant to do that!” laughed at themselves and picked right back up where they left off.
The new royal baby has arrived! Kate Middleton went to the hospital a little before 6am London time. And she didn’t have to labor too terribly long because Kensington Palace tweeted, “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.” And now we just have to wait for the NAME!!! The new royal baby is fifth in line for the throne now, after his grandfather Prince Charles, his father Prince William, and then big brother Prince George and big Sister Princess Charlotte.
