Weekend box office news… Thomas Gibson fired… Leaked video shows Johnny Depp fighting with Amber Heard… Selena Gomez spat with Justin Bieber… and Ryan Lochte robbed at gunpoint in Rio
First the good news. “Suicide Squad” won the box office again, taking in another $43.8 million. The bad news is, the film dropped more than 60 percent in its second week. “Sausage Party” came in second with $33.6 million. That’s the biggest debut in history for an R-rated animated movie. Coming in third was the new “Pete’s Dragon” with $21.5 million.
Thomas Gibson went from suspended to fired. Last week we found out Thomas was suspended from “Criminal Minds” after he got into an argument with one of the show’s writers and kicked him. He issued a statement saying how much he loved doing the show for 12 years and that he’d hoped to stay with it to the end. Thomas has actually hired a top LA lawyer to see if there’s enough there for him to sue the producers for firing him. Meantime, his former costar Shemar Moore posted a since-deleted Instagram message about karma. He didn’t mention anyone by name, but he said, “The gossip is real…..Good things happen to good people. Honest people. Hard-working people. Humble people. People who believe in basic goodness.” Now, he COULD have been talking about Thomas. But he also could’ve been talking about his former friend, Keith Tisdell, who was found guilty of embezzling more than $60K from Shemar’s charity, Baby Girl, which helps people battling MS.
Amber Heard wasn’t able to catch a flight out of London for her deposition Friday morning, but the judge was nice enough to bump her appointment to Saturday. When Amber finally did sit down for that deposition, it would be 7 hours before she got up again. TMZ’s sources say she was grilled about her claim that Johnny Depp beat her on May 21st and yet 5 concierges, 2 police officers and a couple of security guards saw no evidence of abuse. She reportedly stuck to her story and said she couldn’t explain why they didn’t see anything. Meantime, a video Amber secretly recorded months before the alleged incident in May was leaked over the weekend. It shows Johnny angrily banging about in the kitchen, throwing a wine bottle and a glass before he noticed she was filming him. Amber says she didn’t leak it.
Justin Bieber has had enough. If people keep bashing his new girlfriend Sofia Richie, he’s going to make his Instagram private. He said the hate was getting out of hand and “If you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.” This apparently was hilarious to Selena Gomez, who actually commented on Justin’s photo with Sofia, “If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – it should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.” She deleted it, of course, but not before everybody screen-grabbed it. Now we have absolute proof that Selena isn’t over him……
Ryan Lochte says that he and three other Team USA swimmers were robbed at gunpoint by men posing as police officers. The guys all went to the France House for a party and then grabbed a taxi to head back to the Olympic Village. Ryan told Billy Bush, “We got pulled over in the taxi and these guys came out with a badge — a police badge. No lights, no nothing, just a police badge and they pulled us over. They pulled out their guns. They told the other swimmers to get down on the ground. They got down on the ground. I refused. I was like we didn’t do anything wrong so I’m not getting down on the ground.” But then they put a gun to Ryan’s head and he got down on the ground. Other than losing their money, the guys weren’t harmed.
