Rest In Peace James Earl Jones… Rachel Zoe announces divorce… ‘SNL’ featured players… Tyrese Gibson has been arrested… and Ryan Seacrest debuts as ‘Wheel of Fortune’ host

If you’re like my husband, a little part of your childhood died yesterday when you found out that James Earl Jones passed away at the age of 93. He lived a long, good life! We loved James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars and Mufasa in The Lion King. He also played a king in both Coming to America and the 2021 sequel. James Earl Jones is one of only a handful of people to have earned the EGOT. He won two Emmy Awards — for Heat Wave and Gabriel’s Fire — as well as a Daytime Emmy for a children’s special called Summer’s End. In 1977, he won the Grammy for Best Spoken Word Recording for Great American Documents. As far as his Oscar, it was an honorary, but it still counts! And James Earl Jones won FIVE Tonys — 4 as a lead actor and one for Lifetime Achievement.

My mouth dropped when I opened Page Six this morning and the first thing I saw was that Rachel Zoe and her husband Rodger Berman are getting divorced. She released a statement on her IG Story that said, “After 33 years together and 26 years married, Rodger and I have come to the mutual decision to end our marriage. We are incredibly proud of the loving family we have created and our countless memories together. Our number one priority has been and will always be our children. We are committed to co-parent our boys and to continue to work together within the many businesses we share. We ask for privacy during this time as we navigate this new chapter. With love and gratitude — Rachel & Rodger.” Rachel and Rodger met as students at George Washington University in 1991 and got married 7 years later. They share the most beautiful boys on the planet, 13-year-old son Skyler and 11-year-old Kaius.

Season 50 of Saturday Night Live premieres on Sept. 28 with some shiny new hopeful faces. Deadline is first to report that Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline have been added as featured players. And after two years as featured players, Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker have all been promoted to the main cast. We already knew Pinkie Johnson and Molly Kearney aren’t returning, but after one season as a featured player, Chloe Troast announced that she wasn’t invited back.

Tyrese Gibson was in court for failure to pay child support and was promptly placed under arrest. Tyrese shares 5-year-old daughter Soraya with his ex-wife Samantha Lee. Back in April 2023, the judge ordered him to pay $10K/month in child support, but Tyrese has failed to comply. So when he showed up for a child support hearing in Fulton County court yesterday morning, the judge ordered the bailiff to lock him up. Tyrese was released a few hours later after his attorney filed an appeal.

More than 11M people tuned in for Pat Sajak’s final episode hosting Wheel of Fortune back in June. It’s too soon to know the ratings for Ryan Seacrest’s first time as the new host. In case you missed it, it was yesterday. Vanna was there to welcome her new pretend best friend and meet the three contestants. But before they began spinning, Ryan addressed the TV audience, introducing himself as the host and saying he has some huge shoes to fill, but he never mentioned Pat Sajak by name. In addition to a new host, viewers got to see a brand new set. And Ryan promised lots of other fun surprises – not just for contestants but for viewers at home, as well. Not everyone welcomes change. In fact, most people tend to resist it. And with a new host, a new set design and new surprises, it’s just too much for some Wheel of Fortune fans to take, and they’re venting their frustrations on social media.
