André 3000 releasing new album… Patrick Mahomes’ underwear… Saying goodbye to Matthew Perry… Taylor Swift’s Thanksgiving plans… and Screen adaptation based on Britney Spears’ memoir
Listen to “Showbiz – Nov 15, 2023” on Spreaker.
Andre 3000 is dropping his first solo album on Friday called New Blue Sun. It is not what you would expect. In fact, right there on the packaging, it says, “Warning: No bars.” Not only will you hear no bars, you will hear neither beats nor vocals. Instead, for 87 minutes, you will hear Andre play various flutes and other wind instruments. Andre said he’s been playing the flute for years and he came to a point where he wanted to share it, so here you go! New Blue Sun features eight songs with ridiculously long titles, some of which I cannot repeat. The lead track is called I Swear, I Really Wanted To Make A ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time.

New Blue Sun is entirely instrumental featuring woodwinds. No rapping.

Patrick Mahomes was a guest on ESPN’s ManningCast for Monday Night Football and admitted that the rumors are true — he has worn the exact same pair of underwear for every NFL game he’s played since his rookie year in 2017. Patrick said his then girlfriend/now wife Brittany got them for him, so of course he had to wear them. He said, “I threw ‘em on that first season and we have a pretty good season….” After that, he wears the same pair of underwear, but only on game day so they’re still in really good shape. And he says it’s not nasty because he does wash them, “every once in a while, at least.” Patrick said — and I don’t know if he’s joking or not because I know how superstitious players can be — that if the Chiefs are on a hot streak, he can’t wash them. He said, “I’ve gotta just keep it rolling.”

Two days after Matthew Perry passed away, his Friends castmates issued a joint statement saying they needed to “take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss,” promising, “In time we will say more, as and when we are able.” For two of them, that time was yesterday. Matt LeBlanc posted several pictures with Matthew on his Instagram, captioning them, “Matthew, It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life. It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never. Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love. And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me.” A few hours later, Courteney Cox posted a video of the scene where we found out Chandler and Monica had slept together — first the one that made it on air, followed by the outtake that didn’t. Courteney then gave us the backstory on Chandler and Monica’s love story. She said, “…When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites. To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story. In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind.”
Page Six has somehow obtained Taylor Swift’s holiday travel itinerary and they say she will be home for Thanksgiving. After her Sunday night concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Taylor reportedly will fly back to the US. Where will she actually spend Thanksgiving Day remains a mystery, but her next tour date is the day after in São Paulo. And Travis Kelce has to stay behind because the Chiefs play the Raiders the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Meantime, I have a feeling Ana will be parked in front of her TV Tuesday night because it’s Taylor Swift night on Dancing With the Stars! She recorded a video that aired on the show last night, saying, “I can’t wait to see Dancing With the Stars celebration of my Eras next week! I wish I could be there with you guys, but I’m on tour in Brazil. But I will be there in spirit and I’ll be watching!” Each of the remaining contestants will dance to their favorite Taylor Swift song, and the guest judge is Mandy Moore — not the actress, the lead choreographer for The Eras Tour. And one more thing! A Taylor-themed cruise will set sail next year. On Oct. 21, the day after Taylor’s third and final concert at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, the Royal Caribbean’s “In My Cruise Era” ship will set sail from Miami, heading toward their private island in Coco Cay and then on to Nassau before returning to Miami. For four nights, Swifties will swap friendship bracelets, enjoy a dance party, sing some karaoke, and take part in what will surely be a highly competitive game of Taylor Swift trivia. Prices range from about $1500 to about $2000, if you want that ocean view.

Yesterday, a writer for The Ankler website posted, “Britney Spears is currently in the midst of a feeding frenzy among the industry’s top studios, streamers and producers, many of whom are vying for the rights to her book. I’ve learned that Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Shonda Rhimes and Reese Witherspoon are but a few of the names currently gunning for the film and TV option through their respective production companies. But the battle for those rights has been quixotic and has resulted in…” I will never know what it resulted in because you have to subscribe. But I did look up the word “quixotic” which means “exceedingly idealistic; unrealistic and impractical.” Some media outlets are reporting that the rights for Britney’s memoir could sell for around $4M, but a documentary involving Britney herself could go as high as $40M! The Ankler writer claims some producers are willing to bid somewhere in the “mid-eight figures” range in order to turn The Woman in Me into a movie. However, Shonda Rhimes — who wrote the screenplay for Britney’s 2002 movie Crossroads — is NOT one of those producers. A spokesperson for Shondaland Productions told Page Six they are “not pursuing this project.” No comment yet from Margot Robbie, who has LuckyChap Productions, Brad Pitt with his Plan B Entertainment, or Reese Witherspoon with Hello Sunshine.
