Box office weekend news… Stuart Scott has passed away… Teresa Giudice has checked herself into prison…  Michael Jackson’s oldest son Prince spending money… and Secret celebrity holiday engagements and marriages

How many movies did you see over the holidays? Odds are, “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” was one of them. It was number one for the third straight weekend, bringing in another $21.9 million. That was followed by “Into the Woods” with $19.1 million. “Unbroken” was third with $18.4 million. “The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death” was fourth with $15.1 million, and “Night at the Museum Secret of the Tomb” rounded out the top five with $14.5 million. Among the small releases, “American Sniper” brought in a whopping $640K in only 4 locations.

After a long battle with cancer, ESPN anchor Stuart Scott has passed away at the age of 49. Stuart joined ESPN back in 1993 as the host of “SportsNight,” eventually becoming a central figure on “SportsCenter.” He was most famous for his catchphrases like, “Call him butter, he’s on a roll!” and “Booyah!” President Obama released a statement about Stuart’s death, saying in part, “…Public service and campaigns have kept me from my family – but wherever I went, I could flip on the TV and Stu and his colleagues on ‘SportsCenter’ were there.” Tiger Woods tweeted, “Stuart wasn’t covering heroes & champions, it was the other way around. Thinking of my friend & his daughters.” Kobe Bryant tweeted, “#StuartScottSayings changed the game #BOOYAH #donthatetheplayerhatethegame R.I.P to a sportscasting Legend.” And Michael Jordan released a statement, saying in part, “He was truly a trailblazer in his field and, by refusing to change his style, made himself into a star…To me he wasn’t just a broadcaster, he was an old friend who I’d known since college. He fought so hard against cancer and I hoped he’d win the battle. I sent my sincerest condolences to his daughters, Taelor and Sydni, and his family and friends. Booyah, my brother.”

Teresa Giudice has checked herself into prison, leaving her mansion in New Jersey shortly after midnight and arriving at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Conn., a little before 3am — 7 hours ahead of her scheduled time. This is the same minimum-security prison camp where Lauryn Hill and Leona Helmsley served their time for tax evasion, and it’s also the inspiration for “Orange is the New Black.” According to “People” magazine, Teresa was treated just like every other inmate, meaning she had to do the whole strip search thing and the “squat and cough” to see if she’s hiding anything. After she serves her 15 months, her husband Joe checks in to do his 41-month sentence and a concurrent 12 months for failing to file a federal tax return in 2004.  He’s also facing deportation because he’s not a US citizen.

Michael Jackson’s oldest son Prince is enjoying all the perks of being a rich kid. He and his sister Paris and younger brother Blanket are the heirs to their father’s billion dollar fortune. Sources say Prince gets a monthly allowance of $66K and has been bouncing all over the place spending his money in LA, Vegas, Arizona, Hawaii and the Caribbean. AND, Prince is a Belieber!! Not only has be been hanging out with Justin, both of them reportedly are being mentored by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. A source says Floyd’s been offering advice to Paris on everything from money to women, which is interesting because back in 2011, Floyd was sentenced to 90 days for misdemeanor battery of an ex-girlfriend.

Let’s do a celebrity relationship roundup! On Christmas Eve, Joe Manganiello popped the question to Sofia Vergara during their vacation in Hawaii. We found out Charlize Theron and Sean Penn are engaged, but it supposedly happened in November and she’s not wearing a ring because she doesn’t want one. Just before Christmas, Joseph Gordon-Levitt secretly married his super smart girlfriend, Tasha McCauley, who reportedly started a robotics company for NASA research. Ashton Kutcher and Mila may have also gotten married based a photo he posted with this message written in the sand:  “Happy New Year. Love, the Kutchers.” And, according to Page Six, Usher is engaged to his manager girlfriend, Grace Miguel. If that’s true, this would be his second marriage. This time, hopefully, his mother will approve…….
