New sports coming to the next Olympics… People’s Choice Country Awards… Robert Downey Jr. returning as Tony Stark… Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg’s new album “Missionary”… and Tay-Gating will be prohibited in London

While several new sports have been revealed for the next summer Olympics in LA, boxing may be on the chopping block. The Paris competition was run by the IOC after it stripped the International Boxing Association of recognition over allegations of corruption, including governance, finance, refereeing and ethical issues. As of right now, boxing isn’t included in 2028, and if a new governing body can’t be found, boxing will be out. But we do have several new competitions to look forward to! Baseball, softball, lacrosse, cricket are all making a triumphant return. Flag football and squash are both considered as “optional” sports, meaning they may not return for Brisbane in 2032. Other “optional” sports becoming permanent are skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing.

The People’s Choice Country Awards will take place on Thursday, Sept. 26, live from the Grand Old Opry, hosted by Shania Twain. Zach Bryan leads the nominations with 19, followed by Beyoncé with 17, Kacey Musgraves with 15 and Shaboozey with 12. Up for the night’s biggest award — the People’s Artist — are Beyoncé, Jelly Roll, Kacey Musgraves, Kane Brown, Lainey Wilson, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, and Zach Bryan. These awards are literally chosen by the people, and you can vote for your favorites now through Aug. 23 at votepcca.com.

In Disney news — Adding to the confusion of Robert Downey Jr. is rejoining the MCU as the evil Doctor Doom, we’ve learned that Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, isn’t dead after all — at least not at Disneyland. Robert will reprise his role as Tony Stark for a couple of new rides at the Anaheim theme park. In Stark Flight Lab, Tony Stark will set the stage for a thrill ride following Iron Man as he sends riders on a wild experiment in two-person robotic pods that whirl around to simulate flight. Robert will also appear in the new Avengers Infinity Defense ride, which takes guests to different worlds that exist throughout the MCU. In other Disney news, you have to wait until Thanksgiving 2027 for Frozen 3. The first two Frozen movies were also released around Thanksgiving, and both went on to earn about a billion dollars, so why fix what ain’t broke? And in the last piece of Disney news, Kim Kardashian has signed a first-look deal with Disney’s 20th Television to develop scripted shows. As part of the first-look deal, Kim is teaming up with her BFF LaLa Anthony and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris to present a show based on LaLa’s best-selling book, The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex and Happiness. Deadline reports the series is already under development, and they’re calling it Group Chat.

In album news, Dr. Dre is super pumped about his upcoming album with Snoop Dogg, saying this is some of his best work ever. Missionary is set to drop later this year. Dre told Entertainment Tonight, “Believe it or not, I’ve only produced one album with Snoop, which was Doggy Style, and that was 30 years ago…but this is my first time actually producing an entire album with him.” Lorde has wiped all her social media accounts clean, so fans are expecting her to announce a new album soon. Right before wiping everything, Lorde posted pictures from the recording studio. And Joe Jonas’ solo album Music For People Who Believe In Love drops Oct. 18, but it’s not super solo. Joe told Entertainment Weekly, “We packed it with features. I was reaching out to a lot of different people because I felt like I wanted to have other narratives and other voices and a lot of duets.” Joe said he wanted to have a conversation in the album, so having others join him made sense.

On the European leg of her Eras Tour, Taylor Swift fans who weren’t lucky enough to get tickets started a trend called “Tay-gating,” where they gather outside the concert venue hoping to hear what’s going on inside. But after the failed terrorist attack in Vienna led to canceling her shows there, London police are warning fans planning to gather outside Wembley Stadium to keep it moving. Those without tickets are being told not to bother getting anywhere close to the venue, while those who DO have tickets are being told to double check the banned items list before they show up. Hopefully, there will be absolutely nothing to report about tonight’s first of five shows in tomorrow’s Showbiz Top 5.
