Box office weekend… The new ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ host… Ed Sheeran opening for Ed Sheeran… The unfollow spree Selena Gomez did… and Taylor Swift gave a speech

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” rebounded back to the top of the box office, taking in another $19.3M in its fourth week of release. This movie cost about $100M to produce — before marketing costs — and so far, it’s more than covered expenses. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” has earned over $300M here in the US and over $560M worldwide. “Elemental” took second place for the second week with another $18.5M. “The Flash” took a huge hit, falling off by 72% from its opening weekend, dropping from first to third with $15.3M. Jennifer Lawrence’s new movie “No Hard Feelings” opened in fourth with $15.1M, but that’s not bad considering it’s a hard “R.” And rounding out the top five was “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” with $11.6M in its third week.

Vanna White might stay with “Wheel of Fortune” after Pat Sajak retires…if the price is right! (Get it?) Sources say Vanna currently earns $3M, while Pat earns about 5 times more than that! Yes, Pat is the host, but is Vanna five times less important?? Many would argue she’s equally as important. In fact, she spends way more time on set than Pat, getting hair and makeup and going through wardrobe changes and obligations. She also spends more time doing publicity for the show than Pat. On top of that, a source says Vanna is “part of the show’s look, feel, and, let’s be frank, appeal. Her enthusiasm and silly button segments with Sajak at the end of each episode are fan favorites.”

Before his concert in Washington, DC, Ed Sheeran went on social media to explain there’d been a change of plans for his opening act. He posted, “DC! Khalid was in a car accident and won’t be able to open the show this weekend, but there’s a new opening act! Ed Sheeran is opening up for Ed Sheeran again!” He added, “Thankfully he was not seriously hurt and he’s taking the time needed to get better. We are all wishing him a speedy recovery and he genuinely appreciates all of you for the love and support.” I can’t find any details of this accident online, and Ed didn’t share any specifics, either. But as he was opening for himself, Ed told the audience, “I just want to say, before I introduce this next song, that I really hope Khalid gets well soon and that he’ll be joining us in Boston.” That would be this Thursday night.

Selena Gomez says she hasn’t been on social media in 5 years and has her assistant post all her content. Then why did Selena’s assistant unfollow so many people recently? For reasons unknown, Selena – or someone on her behalf – has unfollowed Zayn Malik, whom she was rumored to be dating a few months ago. She also unfollowed Zayn’s baby mama Gigi Hadid and her sister Bella Hadid. If you remember, Selena dated The Weeknd after he and Bella broke up, but after their relationship ended, The Weeknd and Bella briefly reconciled. Selena also unfollowed Dua Lipa, who used to date Bella and Gigi’s baby brother Anwar.

Taylor Swift is doing a little preemptive strike before the re-release of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” on July 7. During her concert in Minneapolis Saturday night, Taylor showered the audience with praise. She said, “I get to stand on this stage every single night of this tour and watch some of the most beautiful things happen. I watch you guys make friends with each other. I watch you bond. I watch you give each other friendship bracelets….” But then after giving them a spoonful of honey, she hit them with a spoonful of medicine. Taylor said she’d like to see her fans extend the same kindness they show each other to their online activities. Basically, without naming names, she was asking them to leave John Mayer alone. John and Taylor met back in 2009 when she collaborated on his song “Half of My Heart.” John was 31 and Taylor was 19, and they ended up dating for about 3 months. After things ended, she wrote “Dear John,” which is basically how this older man took advantage of her sweet young self, and the song is about to have new life breathed into it with the re-release of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)”. Taylor told the audience, “I’m 33 years old. I don’t care about anything that happened to me when I was 19….I’m not putting this album out so that you can go and, like, should feel the need to defend me on the internet against someone you think I might have written a song about 14 billion years ago.” Then she followed that up with her surprise performance of “Dear John,” which was the first time Taylor performed that song live in 11 years!
