Normandy not invited to Hollywood… *NSYNC merch being released… Jim Carrey announces retirement… The meaning of the As It Was… and The 64th annual Grammys will be live this Sunday

Listen to “Showbiz – Apr 1, 2022” on Spreaker.

Here’s something I learned today…Just because you receive a Golden Ticket to Hollywood, you don’t necessarily get to go. Normandy was a contestant on this season’s “American Idol.” She was the girl with a carrot purse and bunny shoes who called her fans “kitten nuggets.” And she got a lot of attention for her speaking voice, which was way different from her singing voice. Normandy got a yes from all three judges, which comes with an invitation to Round 2 in Hollywood. That never happened. Normandy explained to us how these shows work on her TikTok. She said, “We filmed the auditions back in October and Hollywood Week was back in December. So late November, I got a call from Fremantle, which is the production company, and they told me I would not be going to Hollywood Week. And this is very, very common because they get hundreds of people that they give yesses to and so not everyone can go to Hollywood Week. It’s too many people.” So why would they even air her getting a Golden Ticket if they ended up taking it back? But that was Normandy’s last shot for “American Idol.” She’s 29 now, and she’ll be too old next year.

*NSYNC fans got all hot and bothered when their official Twitter page put up a poster that said, “Vol. 7 Coming Soon” showing the back of a woman wearing a multi-colored sweatshirt. They captioned it, “Something is coming…” Fans were freaking out thinking maybe the group is getting back together for a reunion album, which would be huge if Justin Timberlake is involved. But it turns out, they’re just laughing some new merch in their official store. They tweeted, “*NSYNC is a lifestyle. The Vol. 7 capsule collection is here!! It features cozy sets, tie dye tees, and more! Shop for a limited time at NSYNC.com.” Wah-waaaaaaahhhhh……And now go look at it. Y’all ain’t gonna wear that……

Jim Carrey was on “Access Hollywood” yesterday promoting “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” when he made the surprise announcement that he’s retiring from acting….for now, at least. UNLESS a script lands in his lap that is “written in gold ink” and is “really important for people to see,” Jim says he done. One of those scripts would have to be about the life of Dolly Parton. Dolly has said in the past that if they do a movie about her, she wants Jim to play her music partner Porter Waggoner. So Jim would say yes to Dolly and maybe something else super special. But other than that, he’s done. Jim said, “I really like my quiet life, and I really love putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life, and I feel like – and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”

Harry Styles’ third solo album “Harry’s House” drops on May 20, but he released the first single yesterday AND the music video that goes with it. Olivia Wilde started trending on Twitter shortly after because all of Harry’s fans think “As It Was” is all about her. The lyrics in the bridge are, “I don’t wanna talk about the way that it was / Leave America, two kids follow her / I don’t wanna talk about who’s doin’ it first.” I mean OBVIOUSLY it’s about Olivia leaving American to spend time with Harry in London and bringing her two kids along. They also think the child talking at the beginning of the song is Olivia’s 5-year-old daughter Daisy, whom she shares with her ex-fiance Jason Sudeikis. But Harry said that’s actually a voice note from his goddaughter, Ruby. He told a British radio show, “She had a streak of calling me every night. I missed it one night and she wanted o let me know that she was quite angry with me.”

Another weekend, another awards show. This Sunday night, it’s the 64th Grammy Awards, live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, hosted by Trevor Noah. Silk Sonic will be opening. They’re nominated for 4 Grammy’s, but Batiste is the most-nominated artist of the night with eleven. Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and H.E.R. are all tied for second with 8 nominations. The Foo Fighters were scheduled to perform, but they dropped out after last week’s sudden death of their drummer Taylor Hawkins. Taylor will be honored in a special way during the In Memoriam performance, but it’s not clear if any members of the Foo Fighters will be there in some capacity. In addition to Silk Sonic, other performers expected to appear Sunday night include H.E.R., Billie Eilish, BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, J Balvin, John Legend, Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Nas, Brandie Carlile and Brothers Osbourne, Lil Nas X with Jack Harlowe, and so many more. You can check it out on CBS.
