Vanessa Bryant Breaks Her Silence

Tyler C. to host Barkitecture… THAT was a stupid thing to say… Gaten Matarazzo undergoing surgery… Jessica Simpson confirmed she was drunk… and Vanessa Bryant breaks her silence

You ready to plop down $4.99 a month for Quibi yet? ($7.99 a month if you don’t want to watch ads.) If you haven’t given in to temptation just yet, will Tyler Cameron be enough to get you past that threshold? Yes, Tyler C from Hannah’s season as the Bachelorette is hosting his own 10-minute show on Quibi called Barkitecture. He and his co-host Delia Kenza are building what Tyler promises are “some of the most insane dog houses you’ve ever seen.” Quibi launches April 6.

When I heard this interview, I immediately thought, “Ouch.” And now Charlie Hunnam is trying to clean up the mess he made with his flippant answer. Charlie was doing the whole press tour thing with Matthew McConaughey and Hugh Grant to promote “The Gentlemen” when they stopped by Andy Cohen’s radio show. Charlie was talking about how he’s going to be 40 in a few months and that he’s concerned about facing some sort of crisis. So Andy asked if he was single and Charlie said, “I’ve been with my girlfriend for 14 and a half…I think…or 13 and a half years, maybe?” (That would be jewelry designer Morgana McNelis.) Then Andy asked Charlie his point of view on marriage. Charlie exhaled and said, “Sort of….indifferent. She does not feel the same. She’s very eager. I’ll do it because it’s important to her, but I don’t have any great romantic feelings towards it.” Hugh said, “I wouldn’t go with that line when you pop your question.” Um, yeah. I could only imagine what that conversation was like after he got home. A paparazzo caught up with Charlie at LAX and asked him about that interview and Charlie admitted it was a stupid thing to say and that it really hurt Morgana’s feelings. But in his defense, he said, “Listen, you spend 12 hours a day for three days doing interviews straight, you’re going to say stupid s***.” He also said he IS romantic and that he sort of considers himself married already. He said, “I suppose what I was trying to articulate (was) the official government sanction of it doesn’t mean anything to me, but the romance of it means an enormous amount.”

Seventeen-year-old Gaten Matarazzo plays Dustin on “Stranger Things.” He has a rare genetic disorder called cleidocranial dysplasia, which affects how his bones and teeth grow. He even wears fake front teeth from time to time. Gaten admits that his teeth and his lisp have kept him from getting acting roles, but those things are actually part of the reason why he got the job on “Stranger Things.” But Gaten still has complications from his disorder. Yesterday, he posted a selfie from his hospital bed, giving a thumbs up. He captioned it, “Surgery number 4! This is a big one!” He didn’t give any other details, but we hope it all went perfectly. Filming is already underway for Season 4 of “Stranger Things.”

Jessica Simpson is doing the rounds promoting her memoir Open Book, which comes out Feb. 4. She talked to Hoda Kotb about that time back in 2017 when she showed up drunk to do Ellen’s talk show. She bumbled and slurred through the interview, causing Ellen to look into the camera in complete exasperation. Funny? Maybe? Jessica says she can’t even go back and watch it now. She said, “It was a weak moment for me and I wasn’t in the right place. I had started a spiral and I couldn’t catch up with myself. And that was with alcohol.” But that national embarrassment wasn’t Jessica’s rock bottom. That happened on Halloween 2017. At the time, Jessica posted a happy family photo from her annual Halloween party. She was dressed as Willie Nelson and her husband, Eric Johnson, was Waylon Jennings. Their kids were dressed as a princess and a cowboy. But Jessica says the truth behind that pretty photo wasn’t pretty at all. She admitted, “I couldn’t even tell you who got them ready. I was just dazed and confused and I wanted to go to sleep. I didn’t take them trick or treating. I didn’t show up for my family. I took the picture and I made the world think that I showed up.” The next day, she quit drinking and started working with a therapist.

TMZ was slammed for reporting Kobe Bryant’s death before his family had been notified. Harvey Levin is defending his website, saying they were on the phone with Kobe’s team for an hour before they published the story, and only did so after being assured that Vanessa had been told. Harvey also admitted TMZ got the tip from law enforcement, which also has people outraged. Why are members of law enforcement giving tips to tabloids??? That will be another issue to debate. Meantime, Vanessa Bryant finally broke her silence, posting a long statement on her Instagram yesterday. She thanked the “millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time.” She added, “Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them.” Vanessa also announced that that a fund has been established to help support the other families affected by the crash. You can donate at MambaOnThree.org. And to further Kobe and their daughter Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, she’s asked us all to visit MambaSportsFoundation.org.
