VMAs Performances Ranked From Worst To Best

The Hills get a reboot… Justin Bieber & Post Malone’s bromance… The Nicki Minaj feud continues… Madonna’s egocentric tribute… and VMAs performances ranked from worst to best

MTV has announced the return of “The Hills.” Several — but not all — of the original cast members will be back so we can catch up on what they’ve been doing for the past 12 years. Since Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari weren’t at the MTV Awards last night, we have to assume they won’t be involved, unless they show mercy and pop up for a cameo at some point. But Heidi and Spencer Pratt are THRILLED to be back on board, this time with their 10-month-old son, Gunner Stone. Also walking the red carpet and back for more scripted reality drama were Audrina Patridge, Justin Bobby, Jason Wahler, and Stephanie Pratt.

Before he killed it with Aerosmith as the closing act for the MTV Awards last night, Post Malone was mobbed by a crowd clamoring for his picture and autograph. Somebody asked if he was going to be making some new music with Justin Bieber and Post said he hasn’t talked to Justin since he announced his engagement to Hailey Baldwin, but he said that Justin did ask him to plan his bachelor party. WHAT???? But Post said it would just be a nice little party with some fishing and hanging out. WHATEVER.

I’m sure MTV executives were frothing at the mouth, waiting for all the drama that was sure to unfold with Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner seated directly behind Nicki Minaj. But after Nicki accused Travis of cheating his way to the number one album in the country by having Kylie tweet about it, Travis said nuh-uh. TMZ says he “requested” to be moved, and MTV put him next to Cardi B instead. Before the day was over, Nicki went on to tweet that she has no serious ill will against any of the people she called out. She said she was simply frustrated by the obstacles that black women face in the workplace. She also compared herself to Harriet Tubman.

Aretha Louise Franklin changed the course of my life.” That was the beginning of Madonna’s tribute to the late Queen of Soul. And then it was all about Madonna. Madonna talked and talked about how she came from nothing to where she is today, and managed to finally tie it back in to why she was really there. She had to know we were all asking what her story had to do with Aretha because she flat out said, “So you’re probably all wondering why I am telling you this story. There is a connection!” Madonna said her career wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t used an Aretha song for an audition. Twitter was having NONE of it. They skewered her.

“Does Madonna know Madonna didn’t die?”

“Madonna presents an Aretha Franklin tribute by Madonna featuring Madonna with Madonna and Madonna as ‘Madonna.’ ”

“That was so so so so disrespectful. Aretha ain’t even put down her purse in heaven yet.”

Billboard ranked all nine performances from the first Monday night VMAs ever. Do you agree? Here they are from worst to first:
