Netflix Cheer star Morgan Simianer is engaged… Harry Styles drops out… Nick Jonas has replaced Shaquille O’Neal… Michael Che denies he is leaving SNL… and Will Smith issued an apology

Listen to “Showbiz – Mar 29, 2022” on Spreaker.

It’s not NEARLY as exciting as Ana getting engaged, but congratulations to friend of the show — “Cheer” star Morgan Simianer — on her engagement. Her boyfriend — now fiancé — Stone Burleson popped the question in Dallas on Saturday. She posted pictures on her Instagram if you want to check them out. Just like Ryan tricked Ana, Stone tricked Morgan into thinking she was going to a hotel for an interview and photoshoot with her old cheer coach, Monica Aldama. Instead, Stone surprised her with a big old diamond ring, and she obviously said yes. Then — just like Ryan and Ana — Stone and Morgan’s family and friends all knew about it and were gathered there to celebrate.

Harry Styles has dropped out of a movie we didn’t even know he had signed on for. Director Robert Eggers said in a new interview that he was supposed to be in Prague preparing to shoot a remake of the classic 1922 silent vampire film “Nosferatu.” (Nosferatu is the Romanian word for vampire.) Harry was all set to play a vampire named Count Orlock of Transylvania who wants to buy a house in Germany and becomes enamored with his real-estate agent’s wife, who was going to be played by Anya Taylor-Joy. You probably know her best as the star of “The Queen’s Gambit.” But at the last minute, Robert said that Harry pulled out at the last minute over “scheduling concerns,” and that put everything on pause. But on the bright side, Robert said it gave him and his family time to go on vacation for the first time in a year and a half. In other Harry news, he announced that the lead single from his upcoming album is called “As It Was,” and it will be released this Thursday at 6pm Central. His new album, “Harry’s House,” will be out May 20th.

Nick Jonas is joining NBC’s upcoming competition series “Dancing With Myself” as a “dance creator” and judge, replacing Shaquille O’Neal. According to Deadline, “The series will see a group of everyday people compete each week in a number of high-energy dance challenges designed and demonstrated by the show’s celebrity creators. Isolated in their own pods, contestants have a short time to learn the new routines, add their unique flair and then perform their hearts out in front of a live studio audience. As each round of the competition progresses, the creators on the judging panel provide instant feedback and choose their favorites to advance, along with the audience picks. But ultimately, it’s the studio audience that decides who’s the best dancer of the night and gets to take home the cash prize.” You mean to tell me that Shaquille O’Neal was going to choreograph dance routines and now we don’t get to experience that???? But technical difficulties with the show’s sets delayed production, and I guess it no longer worked with Shaq’s schedule. New dad Nick is parked for a minute, so he’s in. Nick will join Shakira and YouTuber Liza Koshy as dance creators and judges. No premiere date for the series has been set, but production is expected to begin next week.

Michael Che wants to make one thing very clear — he is NOT leaving “Saturday Night Live.” On his Instagram, Michael wrote, “I said it at a comedy show, and some dork transcribed it & wrote an article.” The joke Michael made was at a show in Minneapolis and he said, “This is my last year. You know my tie is a clip-on, right? What man wears a clip-on tie to work for eight years? That’s embarrassing.” The guy who heard it took it to mean Michael was leaving the “Weekend Update” segment. Michael joined SNL in 2013 and replaced Cecily Strong as co-anchor of “Weekend Update” the following year. And in 2017, Michael made SNL history when he became the first black co-head writer alongside Colin Jost.

After slapping Chris Rock across the face for making a joke at his wife’s expense, Will Smith danced his booty off at the Oscars after-party, got a good night’s rest, gathered his thoughts, ran his apology by his PR team and damage control experts, and then posted it on Instagram. Will started by saying, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.” He then apologized to Chris, the Academy, and everybody else on the planet. While presenting the Oscar for Best Documentary, Chris noticed Jada in the audience with her head shaved bald and made an unscripted joke about looking forward to seeing her in “G.I. Jane 2.” Those who know Chris say he was unaware that Jada suffers from alopecia.

Will Smith issued an apology via Instagram to Chris Rock, to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and to viewers at home, saying he was “out of line” and that his actions are “not indicative of the man I want to be.”https://t.co/r10SR9Lv5z— The Associated Press (@AP) March 28, 2022
