As part of our Salute to Veterans, today we honor Josh Lackey. He spent so much time caring for others, he’s overdue for some me-time! Hear how he reacts to a surprise vacation, thanks to VISIT FLORIDA!

“Josh joined the Army as a kid and came out a hero. He is my ex-husband but we still remain close to co-parent our two amazing children. While Josh was serving in his first and longest deployment in Iraq our first daughter was born. I will never forget the satellite call where he first heard our daughter crying, he dropped the phone and started screaming, “I’m a dad! My baby girl is here! She’s here!”. His deployment was extended at the time so when he arrived back in Orlando, Florida our daughter was already three months old. Later we found out our sweet girl has Autism and is non-verbal; that never weakened his love for her and he was determined to connect with her no matter what. Josh has always been a strong leader in the Army, his co-workers have become his family. While he is no longer in the Army, him and his tank gunner have started a non-profit for veterans to enjoy recreational hunting and fishing trips at no cost to them. He will always be our hero.”
