A Big Bus Of Friends
A Big Bus Of Friends

Saturday Night, I was sitting at the bar next to a friend of mine and I had an idea. Since I have been trying to think of a way to increase sales at my other restaurant, (Scoreboard Grille), why don’t I take a few of my friends from my older restaurant to my newer restaurant in Seagoville to check out the band that was playing? In fact, as I started inviting people, it looked like I would need more than just an Uber Suburban. I would need a small bus.

Sure, I have a bus. But, I don’t currently have a bus driver. So, I called a friend that has a bus service and asked him to send me a 15 passenger mini bus. He confirmed it would be $400. My friend said he would “put in” on it. So, it looked like we were set. 15 minutes later, after my friend and I each called several friends, it looked like we had a large group that was coming. So, I called the bus company back and asked if he could send the next larger size bus. Now, we had a 22-passenger bus coming at 9pm to pick us up. PERFECT!

Well, at 7:30, things started to change. One of my friends cancelled. In fact, during the next 45 minutes, one by one, all of the passengers cancelled. In fact, even the friend that was “putting in” on the bus cancelled. Now, It’s 8:30pm and I would be the only passenger. I couldn’t cancel the bus. It was too late. This was about to be really embarrassing. So, when the bus arrived at 9p, I had to do something desperate. I grabbed the mic and told my customers the situation. I asked if anyone wanted to get on a bus and ride with me. Oddly enough, 18 people agreed to go. Some were couples, one was a group of 5 ladies. But away we went to the other restaurant.

Perfect… again. 20 minutes later, my new friends and I arrived at Scoreboard Grille. We arrived just in time to see the band putting up their gear. Yup, the band was done and the show was over. We all had a drink, got back in the bus and headed back.
