Big Al’s Blog: Knee Surgery & Bevo

Knee surgery is scheduled for one week from today. My girlfriend is actually a little disappointed that I haven’t asked her anything about the procedure. Sure she’s a surgeon. But I’m trying to act like this isn’t a big deal. Meanwhile, In the back of my head, this is a big deal. I’ve never had any type of surgery before. I’ve never been “under.” The thought of that kind of freaks me out. Ok, I have to change the subject.

Speaking of the Surgery, My friends have taken it upon themselves to have a “Just in Case” party at my bar. So, “Just in case,” we will have partied one last night together??? Haha, wow, is this cool? NO! But, in the event something bad happens, we will have had one last night. At the party, I think they are all going to get up in front of the crowd and claim all of my worldly possessions. That’s what friends are for!

big-al-blog-pic-100614This is the week that any Sports bar owner in this part of the country really looks forward to. Its College rivalry week down here. Every part of the country has a big Rivalry game. Here, it is the TX/OU game. We work all summer and fall in anticipation of this week. It’s the equivalent of Black Friday for retailers. For me, it will start off with Bevo making an appearance at my bar. Bevo is the 1500 pound Longhorn Steer that is the sacred mascot for the University of Texas Longhorns. The next day, I have Live Music on the patio and Karaoke inside. And I will be premiering our awesome new Party Bar. And then Saturday is the game. All we have to have is good weather and cold beer. This is regularly our busiest day of the year. Then, we follow it up with the “Just in Case” party on Sunday.

Wow, What a weekend!
