Big Al’s Blog: Mirror Mirror on the wall

Let’s see, are my legs hurting right now? Not too bad, but they should be. I did some serious treadmill time yesterday. I went home after we were done working and got right on the treadmill. We have this little workout room at my apartment building with a few pieces of equipment. It’s nothing big and fancy but it gets the job done. And the funny thing is this. I see myself naked all the time. Full on, completely, 100% butt ass naked. Ok, I have gotten used to that. sad, but true. But yesterday for some reason, it was a little bit different. I really SAW…I was on the treadmill walking at about 4.3mph and I was working up a pretty decent sweat. I didn’t have a towel to wipe my forehead so I took the bottom of my shirt and raised it up to do a little sweat wipe and right then, I looked into the mirror. I literally let out a short scream! I just saw a little side roll on the side of my belly and it scared me. I immediately cranked that treadmill up to 5mph and ran the next 10 minutes. 1hour total.

Then as I was getting off the treadmill, I raised my shirt up again to see if what I saw was real. It was. So right then I decided to not go home and shower. I was going to the gym. Yup, I left the little gym and went to the bigger gym. There, I got on the treadmill again and did another 40 minutes. A total of just over 7 miles. I raised my shirt up again and yup, it was still there. It was real. See ya back there again today.

I might as well work out. I won’t be seeing Doctor girlfriend much. At least not much in the next 30 days. Her shift changes at the first of every month and for the month of December, she will be working 12 hour OVERNIGHT shifts, 6 days a week. And she will be working like this for the next 5 plus years. I asked her the other day if she liked her job and she said enthusiastically, “I Love My Job.” so, there you have it. The old saying is, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work another day in your life.” She loves it. You pretty much have to for that sort of dedication. On Thanksgiving Day, before I went to my mom’s house, I took Thanksgiving dinner for her and her team to the hospital. I just went to the deli section of the hospital and got sliced turkey, fried chicken, ham, precooked stuffing, mac and cheese, potato salad, paper plates, sweet tea, plastic cups and some more stuff. It wasn’t anything fancy. It was Thanksgiving in a few plastic grocery bags. But, what else do you do when the person you are dating has to work on a holiday? Shhhh, don’t tell her…I’ll probably do it again on Christmas Morning. Maybe I’ll even take them a little Christmas tree to set up in the break room. Or better yet, maybe I’ll take one of the Live Reindeer from the MAT Christmas party and let the doctors and nurses take pictures with him. Haha…

Happy Holidays!
