Big Al’s Blog: Such a weird feeling

Vacation has come and gone. I spent the first weekend trying to decide if I was going to head down to Mexico for the last night of my bar, the Beer Bucket. I opened this bar 7 years ago and 2 months ago, my landlord decided to NOT renew my lease. So, after looking for another location and not finding one, it was time to close.

Most of the kitchen equipment had been sold. It was a pretty sad night. But after hanging out with some of the regulars, some visitors, and all of the employees, it hit me that this chapter of my life was over. It felt like losing a loved one. I know it wasn’t nearly that bad but that’s what it felt like. The next day when I woke up in Playa del Carmen, was the first time in over 7 years that I didn’t have my own bar to go hang out at. It was such a weird feeling.

I came back home on Wednesday. The rest of the week was full of working at my bar here, singing some karaoke, and celebrating the 4th of July.

Goodbye to the Beer Bucket. I will miss you! Maybe one day, we will meet again!
