Weekend box office news… Chris Brown released a new song… A Handmaid’s Tale themed party… Justin Bieber randomly went after Tom Cruise… and Chris Pratt & Katherine Schwarzenegger got married
“The Secret Life of Pets 2” won the battle at the box office this weekend, debuting with $47.1 million. Critics were lukewarm, giving it only a 54 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences gave it an A- CinemaScore. The new “Dark Phoenix” crashed and burned, taking second with $33 million. Critics pretty much hate it — only 22 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences gave it a B- CinemaScore. “Dark Phoenix” now holds the record for the lowest-earning debut for an X-Men movie. That honor was previously held by “The Wolverine,” which opened to $65 million in 2013.

Kylie Jenner’s best friend Stassie Karanikolaou turned 22. That’s not considered a milestone birthday, but who cares! When you’re rich and beautiful, you party like it. First there was the party at Bootsy Bellows Friday night. Jordyn Woods was there and we’re not sure if there was any interaction with Kylie, but at least they were in the same room. Tristan Thompson was also there, but he never hung around their group. On Saturday, Kylie threw Stassi a Handmaid’s Tale themed party. She went all out, decorating her house to look like Gilead, dressing up in those red outfits the women on the show wear, and serving cocktails with names like Praise Be Vodka and Under His Eyes Tequila. And Kylie also hosted a pool party for birthday girl Stassie, with a strict neon pink bikini dress code.

Yesterday, Justin Bieber tweeted, “More music coming. Happy Sunday.” But nobody is talking about that today because of what Justin posted a few hours later. For whatever reason, Justin randomly went after Tom Cruise! He tweeted, “I wanna challenge Tom Cruise to fight in the octagon. Tom if you dont take this fight your scared and you will never live it down. Who is willing to put on the fight? @danawhite ?” Sources say he was just kidding.

Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger got married on Saturday! On Sunday they each posted the same photo on their Instagram accounts with almost identical captions. “Yesterday was the best day of our lives! We became husband and wife in front of God, our families and those we love. It was intimate, moving and emotional. We feel so blessed to begin this new chapter of our lives. We are so thankful to our families and our friends who stood with us, and grateful to Mr Giorgio Armani, who created a once in a lifetime dress for me to wear, and for Chris, the perfect suit. (On Chris’ IG, he thanked Mr. Amani for his bride’s dress and his suit.) This morning we feel nothing but blessed.” The couple were married in an intimated ceremony at the San Isidro Ranch in Montecito. Among the guests were Rob Lowe and his two sons, as well as Chris’ ex-wife Anna Faris. Their 6-year-old son Jack was part of the ceremony.
