Jacob Serrano Autobiography
Hello, my name is Jacob Serrano. I’m 15 years old and I live in Grand Prairie, Texas. I am a total music nerd! I love to look at music in many ways – I love looking at what makes up a song by analyzing the rhythms, the poetry and the melodies! I enjoy exploring different genres from classical to rock, rap and country; and then adding my own twist to the music making it unique.
I think I am truly blessed by being able to not only sing, but write and compose my own music. I started singing at the age of 8 and playing the guitar at age 11. I really want to be a well-rounded musician; therefore I’ve been working on playing piano and bass as well.
I currently attend Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy (GPFAA), which is the best school on planet earth in my opinion!! I’m in the Vocal Music Strand where we train in singing in classical and popular music performance techniques. This is also where I get to live out my nerd dreams and learn about the theoretical parts of music so I can write my own songs! Since attending GPFAA, I’ve had the opportunity to compete across the state and perform across the Nation. Our school went on an East Coast Tour this year!! We performed in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee; Washington, D.C.; and New York City. The tour made me realize that music can take me places and it’s what I want to do as a profession.
Music nerd aside, honestly, I’m just like any other teenager. I love watching TV and movies, and of course, eating! My favorite hobby, besides making music, is watching and playing soccer! I love all things soccer and there is something about the game that just makes me want to run forever with a soccer ball at my feet. I also like free-styling which means doing tricks with the soccer ball. Playing soccer is a great stress reliever! My favorite player is Ronaldino Gaucho from Brazil.
Another thing you should know is that I’m very loyal to my faith, family and community. My family is very unique considering my dad was born in Mexico and my mom in Michigan. Talk about two worlds coming together. The really cool thing is that they met in a music store. My mom worked at the store and my dad needed strings for his guitar. When he went to the store, he ended up with “strings” attached!! Five years later, came me!! My parents are both singers and musicians, and they love being involved in my musical endeavors.
