Gunfire at Chris Brown’s album release… Ariana Grande and Big Sean dating… Beyonce’s VMA performance…  Nicki Minaj’s backup dancer bitten by anaconda… and Miley Cyrus brings awareness to youth homelessness

As part of the pre-VMA festivities, Chris Brown threw an album release party at 1OAK in West Hollywood and things turned violent. About 1:30 in the morning, and Suge Knight ended up getting hit six times, taking five bullets to the stomach and one in his arm. He walked out of the club on his own and was then taken to the hospital for surgery. Sources told TMZ he’s in ICU but is expected to recover. As far as’s reports that the shooter was aiming for Chris and this was gang-related, one witness told Page Six that Chris wasn’t the target. The source says if the gunman really meant to hit Chris it would’ve been easy because “he was right there, stood above everyone, front and center.”

We now have official confirmation that Ariana Grande and Big Sean are dating. Backstage cameras caught the couple holding hands after Ariana finished performing “Bang Bang” with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj onstage.

Before accepting the Video Vanguard Award, Beyonce performed a montage of every song on her “Beyonce” CD in 15 minutes. Then to quiet the rumors that they’re headed for divorce, Jay Z came onstage carrying Blue Ivy to give Mommy her moon man. Beyonce fought back tears as Blue clapped and cheered, “Yay, Mommy!”

During Friday’s rehearsal for Nicki Minaj’s VMA performance, one of her backup dancers was bitten on the hand by an anaconda. So when Nicki performed “Anaconda” last night, you may have noticed the absence of any actual snakes. You also may have noticed Nicki’s wardrobe malfunction. Nicki ducked backstage to do a quick change before joining Jessie J and Ariana Grande for “Bang Bang,” but she didn’t get the front of her dress zipped in time. But was this a malfunction or was this on purpose? A source says that Nicki rehearsed that wardrobe change several times before the live broadcast and never once got the dress zipped up in time.

Miley Cyrus tweaking on Robin Thicke and life-sized teddy bears was the talk of last years VMAs. This year, she did a complete 180 and decided to use her win for Video of the Year to bring awareness to youth homelessness. Miley met 22-year-old Jesse at My Friend’s Place and invited him to be her date to the VMAs. He told the crowd, “I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving and lost and scared for their lives. I know, because I am one of those people.” He then encouraged all of us to go to Miley’s Facebook page where she posted a video explaining that for every $5 donated to My Friend’s Place, you’ll be entered to win a trip for 2 to Brazil to hang out with Miley at her show in Rio de Janeiro.
