I teach 6th-8th grade Outdoor Education, essentially Outdoor Survival. With $500 I would invest in full size tarps and tents to practice shelter building, fire starters to work on their outdoor cooking and fire starting skills. I would also use the funds to go to the local State Park and practice hands-on fishing, backpacking, and tent building. Outdoor Education teaches students skills that they need to survive that do not require an electronic device.
