Box office weekend news… Linkin Park unreleased song… Sylvester Stallone had Navy SEALs train his daughters… Chris Brown was uninvited… and Bethenny Frankel slams Kelly Rowland
Listen to “Showbiz – Feb 20, 2024” on Spreaker.
A couple studios decided to release their new movies a few days early to take advantage of the extended holiday weekend. Bob Marley: One Love exceeded box office expectations, earning $52M in its first six days of release and taking first place. Madame Web, on the other hand, was a huge disappointment, earning just $26M in its first 6 days for a second place finish. The studio had plans to turn Madame Web into a franchise starring Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabella Merced and Celeste O’Connor. But after a disastrous opening, a source told The Hollywood Reporter that there likely won’t be another Madame Web movie for at least another decade.
“Bob Marley: One Love” landed in what has become a box office sweet spot — stories that feel both nostalgic and new — while “Madame Web” is another sign that the comics-character boom is over.https://t.co/aQxcEWBhZA

In 2017, Linkin Park released One More Light, not knowing it would be their last album with Chester Bennington. Two months later, Chester took his life. While Linkin Park isn’t recording new music, they continue to share previously unreleased songs featuring Chester. Yesterday they teased a song called Friendly Fire, which was recorded during the One More Light sessions. We don’t know yet when they’ll actually release it. And even though it’s not anything new, it feels like new music to Gwen Stefani. No Doubt is reuniting for Coachella, and Gwen admitted to Jimmy Kimmel that she doesn’t remember ANY of the songs. She said she’s going to have to learn 8 or 9 of them, including one of the first songs she ever wrote called Different People.

Sylvester Stallone was so nervous about his daughters Sophia and Sistine moving to NYC that he hired Navy SEALs to train them in self-defense. Sistine said, “It was about six hours we were in those woods. Sophia and I got our (butts) whooped by these guys!” Sistine said she wasn’t surprised her dad put them through that because they grew up with him doing “these sort of military-esque, self-defense trainings.” And in an example of life imitating art, Sophia and Sistine had to chase a chicken, just like dear old dad did in Rocky 2. We can see how it all went down when Season 2 of The Family Stallone premieres this Wednesday night on MTV and Paramount+.

Chris Brown claims he was uninvited to the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game because Ruffles won’t let go of his past. He shared a screenshot of an email he received on his IG Story, saying, “I was asked by the NBA to play in the All-Star Game this year! Only for them to call later and say they couldn’t do IT because of their sponsors, like RUFFLES. At this point, I’m sick of people bothering me and I’m tired of living in the (BLANKING) past.” He went on to say that the NBA was trying to smooth over the situation by having Chris sit court-side, but he wasn’t having it. Chris said, “I ONLY GO WHERE I’M APPRECIATED.” Frito-Lay then released a statement saying, “Ruffles did not have any involvement in, nor visibility, to, any player decisions or celebrity invite discussions.”That only set Chris off again. He dragged the chip maker, saying, “Y’all tryna save face now. STAND ON BUSINESS!”

Will Kelly Rowland ever grace the Today show with her presence again? Last Thursday, Savannah Guthrie was SUPPOSED to be interviewing Kelly about her new Netflix movie Mea Culpa. But all Savannah could do was ask Kelly about Beyonce. “What do you think about your friend Beyoncé? She’s like your sister, you guys literally grew up together – she’s stepping into country.” Kelly responded, “I’m so proud of her.” But Savannah couldn’t help herself, continuing, “I know, but were you surprised and what do you think about it?” Once again, Kelly said, “I’m so proud of her. So happy for her.” If Savannah wasn’t picking up the cues to move on, viewers certainly were! One viewer tweeted the most common sentiment, “Please stop asking @KELLYROWLAND about the choices @Beyonce makes!” But things only went from bad to worse. Kelly was supposed to stick around to co-host the final hour of the Today show with Hoda Kotb, but she and her team reportedly didn’t like the dressing room she was offered. Even though Today producers offered several other options, nothing met Kelly’s standards, so she walked! Thankfully, Rita Ora stepped in at the last minute so Hoda didn’t have to do the show alone.
