Listen to “Showbiz – Sept 29, 2023” on Spreaker.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was the focus of the HBO documentary “Mommy, Dead and Dearest” and also inspired a Hulu miniseries called “The Act.” Gypsy Rose and her boyfriend Nick Godejohn were both charged with first-degree murder of her mother Dee Dee, which led to the big reveal that Dee Dee had lied about her daughter’s medical issues, convincing friends, family and even doctors that she was terminally ill. Dee Dee forbid her daughter from speaking during doctor visits and told her that if she ever tried to escape, police wouldn’t believe her story. She and her boyfriend decided the best way to get out of this situation was to kill Dee Dee, and in 2016, Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years in prison. But after serving 85% of her sentence, Gypsy Rose is walking out of prison a free woman on December 28. As far as her now ex-boyfriend, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

In TV and streaming news, Kristen Stewart is producing a new ghost-hunting show called “Living for the Dead,” which hits Hulu on Oct. 18. From the creators of “Queer Eye,” this series features five LGBTQ ghost hunters exploring supposedly haunted locations around the country. Kristen said, “It started as a bit of a hypothetical silly pipe dream and now I am so proud to have shepherded something that is as moving and meaningful as it is truly a gay old time.” And NBC announced a “Deal or No Deal” spinoff called “Deal or No Deal Island!” In the promo video, original host Howie Mandel hands off his briefcase to the new host………Joe Manganiello! This new version sounds like a mix of the original game show and “Survivor.” On this one, 13 contestants are flown to an island where they will compete in “thrilling challenges” and “mind-bending dilemmas.” No word on when this will debut.

The first ever People’s Choice Country Awards were held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville last night, hosted by Little Big Town. The big winner of the night was Jelly Roll, who won six out of his eight nominations, including Male Artist of 2023, New Artist of 2023, and Song of 2023 for “Need a Favor.” That one was a big surprise because everyone expected Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” to win. Morgan was the most nominated artist of the night. Out of eleven, he won 3, including the big one — The People’s Artist of 2023. Lainey Wilson also won 3, including Female Artist of 2023.

Rumors were rampant that Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany wasn’t happy about Taylor Swift surprising the world by showing up in Travis Kelce’s suite at Arrowhead Stadium last week. But TMZ says Patrick and Brittany were at Travis’ after party Sunday night and they got along great. In fact, several sources saw them doing a shot together! Some even reported overhearing Taylor and Brittany saying they wanted to stay in touch and meet up again in the near future. Polite conversation or a budding friendship? We’ll see! Meantime, a video of Mark Cuban on “First Take” was tweeted yesterday where he said, “Taylor — sorry if you’re listening Travis — break up with him. I’ve got a bunch of good-looking single guys that play for the Dallas Mavericks. I gotchu!” Travis tweeted back, “@mcuban Just sign me to a ten day!” A very nice person in the comments posted, “For all the swifties, a “ten day” is just a 10 day contract where you get to prove yourself to the team for 10 days and the team decides if you’re worthy of another contract or not.” And a Mavericks fan account tweeted, “We do need a center.”

A lot of people scratch their heads while watching Britney Spears’ dance videos. But that confusion turned to concern when she pulled out knives and started flailing around. Even though she insisted they were fake, someone in her camp called for a welfare check. Captain Dean Worth of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office gave details to “Billboard.” He said someone close to Britney — not a fan — reached out to the LAPD’s Systemwide Mental Assessment Response Team, or SMART, and they, in turn, contacted the Sheriff’s office asking them to check on her. Captain Worth said, “We sent one of our sergeants named Sergeant McConville…He knows Ms. Spears from prior encounters at the residence. He responded to the house, went through the first security gate. Upon arriving at the second security gate, he was contacted via the intercom system by (Britney’s0 head of security, who relayed to Sergeant McConville that that she was absolutely fine, that she did not wish to speak with the officer, or have him come in the house, but he was with her and there was absolutely nothing wrong. Her safety was not in jeopardy, from others or self-harm.” So he left. Then after confirming with “two independent people that closely know her,” Captain Worthy said, “We did our due diligence to check her well-being and we did not believe that she was in any harm whatsoever.” Last night, Britney posted another video of her dancing and smacking her bottom with the knives, captioning it, “I know I spooked everyone with the last post, but these are fake knives that my team rented from Hand Prop shop in LA. These are not real knives. No one needs to worry or call the police. I’m trying to imitate one of my favorite performers Shakira … a performance I was inspired by !!! Cheers to us bad girls who aren’t afraid to push boundaries and take risks!”
