Dr. Dre Boasts Daughter Is Going To College

Weekend box office news… Barbra Streisand is backpedaling… Kanye’s congregation… Jennifer Lawrence has a new best friend… and Dr. Dre boasts daughter is going to college

Jordan Peele has figured out this movie-making thing. After that first misstep with “Keanu” — remember that one? It was about two guys getting caught up in a drug war while looking for a kitten. Yeah, after THAT one, Jordan came out with “Get Out,” which was HUGE. And now he’s followed that up with “Us,” which opened this weekend with $70.3 million. That makes “Us” the 3rd-biggest opening for a horror movie of all time, and the biggest opening ever for any original R-rated movie. By the way, “Us” only cost $20 million to make. That doesn’t include the cost of marketing the movie, but still… “Captain Marvel” dropped to second with $35 million. “Wonder Park” was in third with $9 million.

Barbra Streisand told a London paper that she believes Wade Robson and James Safechuck were molested by Michael Jackson, but should’ve stopped right there. She would’ve taken heat for that from his staunchest supporters, but what she said next sent EVERYBODY over the edge. Barbra said that when she met Michael, he was “very sweet” and “very childlike.” But she felt sorry for him. She said, “His sexual needs were his sexual needs, coming from whatever childhood he has or whatever DNA he has.” WHAT????? And THEN she said, “You can say ‘molested,’ but those children, as you heard them say, they were thrilled to be there. They both married and they both have children, so it didn’t kill them.” After getting thoroughly beat up by pretty much everyone ever, Barbra is backpedaling as hard as she can. She released a statement saying that “there is no situation or circumstance where it is OK for the innocence of children to be taken advantage of by anyone.” She also posted an apology on Instagram, saying, “I am profoundly sorry for any pain or misunderstanding I caused by not choosing my words more carefully about Michael Jackson and his victims, because the words as printed do not reflect my true feelings. I didn’t mean to dismiss the trauma these boys experienced in any way. Like all survivors of sexual assault, they will have to carry this for the rest of their lives. I feel deep remorse and I hope that James and Wade know that I truly respect and admire them for speaking their truth.”

Kanye’s congregation is growing! Kanye has been holding Sunday morning services on his huge property in Calabasas. Last week, DMX popped up and led off with the morning prayer. This week, in addition to his wife Kim and their kids, his sisters-in-law Khloe, Kourtney and Kendall, along with Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Courtney Love and Tyler the Creator also showed up to worship. Kanye led the huge choir — all dressed in what looks like his Yeezy collection — in their performance of his song, “Jesus Walks.”

Jennifer Lawrence used to be best friends with Amy Schumer, but it looks like she’s moved on to Adele. The two of them were hanging out in NYC over the weekend and hit up a popular gay bar in the West Village called Pieces. Adele was invited up on stage and the host asked what she did for a living. She said, “At the moment I’m a stay at home mom.” And she said she was in NYC for work. Then Adele and Jennifer did some competitive drinking game which involved taking lots of shots. Jennifer mopped the floor with Adele, and they ended up rolling around drunk on the floor with Jennifer shouting at Adele, “You lose!”

Dr. Dre’s baby girl is going to college! And he was so proud that on Saturday, he posted a picture of him and his daughter on Instagram, captioning it, “My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own, no jail time.” See what he did there?? Dr. Dre was giving props to his daughter while slamming all those other parents who paid bribes to get their kids into college. Good one, Dr. Dre! But that’s when people started reminding Dr. Dre — real name Andre Young — that back in 2013, he and his Beats by Dre co-founder Jimmy Iovine donated $70 million to USC to create the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation. There was nothing illegal about THAT, but it SURE didn’t hurt when it was time for his daughter to apply to USC. After getting a ton of grief, Dr. Dre deleted the post.
