HGTV’s ‘Flip or Flop’ Hosts Split After Explosive Fight

Weekend box office news… The Critics Choice Awards… Coach signed with Selena Gomez… Louis Tomlinson’s mother passed away… and HGTV’s ‘Flip or Flop’ hosts split after explosive fight

It was slow at the box office, but “Moana” still managed to hold on to the top spot for a third straight weekend with $18.8 million. “Office Christmas Party” debuted in second with $17.5 million. Coming in third was “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” with $10.8 million.

The Critics Choice Awards happened last night, and a movie which hardly anyone has seen yet — “La La Land” — took the top honor of the night, Best Picture. Casey Affleck took Best Actor for his role in “Manchester by the Sea” while Natalie Portman won Best Actress for “Jackie.” Over on the TV side of things, HBO’s “Silicon Valley” won Best Comedy Series, with SNL’s Kate McKinnon winning Best Actress in a Comedy Series and Donald Glover of “Atlanta” winning Best Actor in a Comedy Series. HBO’s “Game of Thrones” won Best Drama Series, with Bob Odenkirk of “Better Call Saul” and Evan Rachel Wood of “Westworld” winning best Actor and Actress in a Drama Series. In other randoms, Best Animated Series went to “BoJack Horseman” on Netflix. “The Late Late Show with James Corden” won Best Talk Show. And Best Reality Competition Series was “The Voice.”

Selena Gomez hid her face from us for a while, but now she’s gonna use that face to make $10 million. That’s the deal Coach signed with Selena to design her own line and become the face of the brand. And people do love that face! Despite taking some time off social media, Selena was just named the most popular celebrity on Instagram with her 104 million followers.

Louis Tomlinson’s mother, Johannah Deakin, passed away on Wednesday after a year-long battle with leukemia. She was only 43. She leaves behind her husband, seven children and one grandchild, Louis’ son Freddie. In fact, Louis’ baby mama Briana Jungwirth may have contempt for Louis, but she loved his mother. She posted a message on Instagram Friday that said in part, “Every time I look at Freddie I see you in him…I looked up to you and sadly only knowing you for a short time, I aspired to be just you in a mother to Freddie.” Louis broke his silence on his mother’s death on Saturday, when he tweeted, “All the support has been incredible! Let’s do this together tonight.” He was talking about his pre-scheduled performance on the British version of “The X Factor.” It was Louis’ first solo performance since taking a break from One Direction. In a statement, Louis performed as a tribute to his mother, whose wish was for him to continue.

“Flip or Flop” is one of the most popular shows on HGTV, with cute couple Tarek and Christina El Moussa take us on an exciting ride as they buy ugly houses — sometimes unseen — remodel them, and try to flip them for a huge profit. Sure, they may butt heads over tile choices, but by all appearances, Tarek and Christina have a close-to-perfect marriage, right? Not according to TMZ. The nightmare started — at least publicly — back in May when officers responded to a call of a “possibly suicidal male with a gun” at the couple’s home in Orange County. And they responded massively, with 11 deputies and a helicopter. Witnesses told cops they saw Tarek grab a gun from his safe, run out the back door and take off down a hiking trail. Shortly after that, Christina ran out of the house and she was crying and shaking. The helicopter spotted Tarek on the trail and after deputies told him to drop the weapon, he did. He told deputies he had no intention of hurting himself. He just needed to blow off some steam after an argument with his wife and took the gun to defend himself against any mountain lions or rattlesnakes. Christina and Tarek have now decided to separate, telling TMZ that they plan to continue doing the TV show together.
