Highlights from the 2015 Grammys

Box office weekend news… Rosie O’Donnell is leaving The View… Brian Williams took himself off of NBC Nightly News… Bruce Jenner was involved in a fatal car crash… and Highlights from the 2015 Grammys

American Sniper was finally knocked out of first place at the box office. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water debuted in first place with $56 million. And after 4 weeks at number one, American Sniper slid down a spot to second with another $24.2 million. And the very confusing Jupiter Ascending debuted in third with $19 million.

On a day they weren’t filming and without giving her co-hosts the heads up ahead of time, Rosie O’Donnell released a statement on Friday that she is leaving The View. Basically, she says the show is killing her. Rosie suffered a heart attack a few years ago and she’s been trying to keep her stress level at a minimum ever since. But Rosie says the stress of doing The View combined with her crumbling marriage and raising five kids —four of them teenagers! — is driving her to an early grave. So she’s quitting for her health and no other reason. (cough! cough!)

Brian Williams says he is taking himself off of NBC Nightly News for the time being because he says, “It has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions.” Those actions, of course, include lying about being shot down in a helicopter over Iraq, which led to other incidents of him lying about things he never actually saw or accomplished.  No word on when or if Brian will return to the anchor desk.

Bruce Jenner was involved in a fatal car crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu on Saturday, and now he and other drivers involved are being investigated for potential involuntary manslaughter charges. A source told RadarOnline that Bruce can’t stop crying and that “he wants to make this right, but doesn’t know how.” Bruce was driving his Escalade and towing a trailer with an ATV when he ran into a Lexus from behind, sending it spinning into oncoming traffic where it was hit by a Hummer H2. The woman driving the Lexus was killed; five people were sent to the hospital. Bruce reportedly is in the process of hiring a criminal defense attorney.

The big surprise of the Grammys last night was Beck winning Album of the Year for Morning Phase. It led to a funny moment for Kanye to get up and act like he was going to grab the mic and do another “Imma let you finish…” speech. But the night’s big winner was Sam Smith. Even though he lost to Beck, Sam took home four Grammys — Best New Artist, Best Pop Album, Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
