The Golden Globes were last night. Instead of having a televised award show, they had a private event and winners were simply announced online. The show was cancelled because people in Hollywood think the Hollywood Foreign Press Association needs to reform. There’s a lot of controversy over their lack of diversity and unethical behavior. And the surge in coronavirus cases didn’t help. Only one celebrity participated. Jamie Lee Curtis filmed a pre-taped video about the HFPA philanthropic efforts.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is still number one at the box office and in just four weeks, it’s become the 6th-highest grossing movie in US history and the 8th-highest grossing movie in the world. Over the weekend, “Spider-Man” earned another $33M at home and another $64M internationally, pushing its worldwide box office total to $1.53B. Coming in second this weekend was “Sing 2,” which earned another $12M in its third weekend. And the new movie “The 355” wasn’t expected to open with huge box office numbers, but it did worse than the experts predicted. It opened with $4.3M for a third place finish.

Making a bomb threat to get out of taking a test, being late for work or wanting to jump the line at a concert is NEVER a good idea. But some dummy tried it in Indianapolis on Saturday. Doja Cat and AJR were performing a free outdoor concert and entry was first-come, first-served. One guy standing way back in line had the bright idea to tell people around him that he had a bomb in his backpack, thinking they’d all leave and he’d get to move closer to the front of the line. But a couple of people found a police officer and told him what was up. They searched the guy’s backpack and didn’t find anything explosive. But it turns out, he did have some outstanding warrants and was whisked off to jail.

If you have been on the internet sometime in the last five years, then you have seen a meme, GIF, video, or picture of Ben Affleck looking really sad…It’s called “Sad Affleck.” It is taken from an interview Ben is doing with Henry Cavill to promote “Batman v Superman.” While Henry is talking, Ben is just staring at the ground looking sad. In a new interview, Ben admitted that he found the memes to be funny, but he was concerned about the effect they had on his kids. He said, “I think when I was young, people saw me as somebody who had too much or was successful too easily or looked like some kind of cavalier, insincere, callow frat guy. That was nothing like how I felt…” Ben said he went through a lot of therapy and stopped paying attention to what was being said about him. He said “but as my kids got older and started seeing the internet themselves, that’s the difficult part. Even the ‘Sad Affleck’ meme — that was funny to me. I mean, there’s nobody who hasn’t felt that way at a junket. But then my kids see it and I think, ‘Oh, are they going to think their dad is fundamentally sad or they have to worry about me?’ That’s really tough.”

We’ve lost some huge celebrities recently. It was sad but not a huge shock when we heard Betty White and Sidney Poitier passed away. Betty was 99 and Sidney was 94. They’d lived good, long lives. But when it hit social media yesterday that Bob Saget had passed away, it felt like a hoax. But sadly, it was true. Bob was found dead in his hotel room in Orlando yesterday afternoon. He was only 65 and his family said there were no signs that he’d been suffering from health issues. We don’t know the cause of death at this point, but authorities say there were no signs of foul play or drug use. Bob recently kicked off his “I Don’t Do Negative Comedy Tour” and hours before his body was found, he posted a selfie and captioned it, “Okay, I loved tonight’s show @pontevedra_concerthall in Jacksonville. Really nice audience. Lots of positivity. Happened last night in Orlando last night at the Hard Rock Live too. Very appreciative and fun audiences. Thanks again to @comediantimwilkins for opening. I had no idea I did a two hour set tonight. I’m back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I guess I’m finding my new voice and loving every moment of it.
