Will Katy Perry Be An American Idol Judge?

Weekend box office news… Nicki Minaj announced new charity… Drake took his cousin to prom… L.A. Reid leaves Epic Records… and Will Katy Perry be an American Idol judge?

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” held onto the number one spot at the box office for a second week, earning another $63 million. The new Amy Schumer/Goldie Hawn movie “Snatched” had a disappointing $17.5 million debut, landing it in second place. But the big bomb of the weekend was “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” The much-delayed Guy Ritchie remake starring Charlie Hunnam opened in third with $14.7 million.

Nicki Minaj had so much fun paying school bills for her fans that she’s decided to start her own charity. She made the announcement on Instagram, posting a screenshot of a list of students next to the bills she paid for them. For instance, she paid off two student loans for Aja totaling just over $2800…she gave Jacob over $1100 for two summer classes…Nicki captioned the photo, “This makes me so happy….I’ll do another impromptu payment spree in a month or 2 but pls know that I’m launching my official charity for Student Loans/Tuition Payments VERY SOON! You’ll be able to officially sign up! I’ll keep you posted!”

It’s embarrassing when you have to take your cousin to the prom…unless your cousin is DRAKE!! Drake flew down to his father’s hometown of Memphis to take his cousin Jalaah to her senior prom. Sure, Jalaah already had a date, but what was he gonna say! He just smiled and posed in the picture with Jalaah and Drake!

L.A. Reid is out at Epic Records after accusations of sexual harassment. Reportedly, one of his assistants had enough of the constant advances, from telling what clothes he liked her to wear to asking her to lie down in bed with him so they could hug! Sony Music issued a statement on Saturday and they kept it real short and sweet: “L.A. Reid will be leaving the company.” L.A. knew what was coming. Last week, he reportedly was telling people that he’s talking to Warner Music Group about a position running their Warner Brothers label. Some of his most successful signings include Meghan Trainor, Future, Fifth Harmony and DJ Khaled.

TMZ is reporting that the announcement is coming down tomorrow and Katy Perry will be named the main judge on “American Idol.” Sources say after negotiations with Kelly Clarkson fell apart and she signed with “The Voice,” “Idol” producers set their sights on Katy. And considering what it will probably cost them to hire Katy — and probably Ryan Seacrest, too! — the other two judges will have to come a lot cheaper. TMZ’s sources say they’ll most likely bring on a songwriter and a music producer. One of the main reasons “Idol” went off the air was because it simply became too expensive to produce.
