J-Si’s Blog: Another step towards becoming a grown @## man!

You know those moments that we have where you think to yourself, “dang… that’s some grown folk stuff I am doing.” I’m not talking big stuff, like buying a house, or getting married, or having a kid. I am talking about little things. Had two of those yesterday, and it put a lil swagger in my step yesterday. Well, one did… the other one made me cringe a lil bit because money required to be spent.

My first achievement may not be a big deal to you, but it was to me. I started drinking coffee about a year ago… and I hate it. So I would slam some splenda in there, and sprinkle some creamer. Probably not the best way to drink coffee. I keep reading that coffee is good for ya, in moderation, and that it is best to drink it plain. So yesterday, I drank my first cup coffe a la black. I did it, I didn’t like it very much, but you know what they say: once you go black, you can’t put creamer and splenda in it. You’ve never heard that?!?! Wow. That’s weird.

My second achievement was: buying a dining room table!!! Believe it or not, I have never owned a dining room table. Kinsey has been begging for one for around 6 years. I don’t know what the big deal is, but apparently, it is necessary to have a table when you own a house. So, I finally gave in, and got us one. Buying a table was not too bad. It dented the wallet a bit, but the thing that made my jaw drop was how much chairs cost. It cost a little bit more to buy the chairs than it did to buy the table. Really?! chanclaNow I know why my mom would flip out and pull the chancla out when I would spill on her chairs. She didn’t use the chancla… but she would do that ninja move that all Mexican moms do, where she she kicks her foot up to her butt, and the chancla magically appears on her hand. I understand now, mom… I understand. haha!
