J-Si’s Blog: Dirty 30 Preview

You know what I just realized? I have a bit of a quandary. I am two months away from turning the dirty 30. Am I scared? Hell nah! It’s just my age, but I still feel young and nutty. You are as old as you choose to be, in my opinion. Everyone talks about this being the biggest birthday since the big 21. So, if this is a milestone birthday, then I need to do something big for it, right? Maybe a trip somewhere super fun. Well, I don’t have to worry anymore. Why? Because my friend decided we are taking a trip already. It wont be for my birthday, though. We will be going to party in New Orleans for my buddy’s bachelor party, on the same weekend Kinsey and I were planning my b-day celebration.

Yup, I will be partying with about 15 guys, and I only know three of them. Yay! Why don’t I skip out on this fun time? I can’t. I am groomsman, and this is my longest running friend. I am sure Kinsey and I will figure something out. It does baffle me a bit, because my buddy’s birthday is the day after mine, but I guess he can turn this into his bachelor/dirty 30 trip. He said he wants to include me in that, but it wouldn’t be right. The weekend is to celebrate his last few days as a single man, not to celebrate the fact that I managed to survive another year, and still can’t grow a manly beard. Plus, like I said, I don’t know any of the guys going. I do know this: they are all very, very intelligent individuals, who work on Wall Street, or as lawyers, or starting their medical careers. They like to talk finance, and I like to talk sports. They like to talk government policies, and I like to talk about what I saw on TV this week. Is this a sitcom, or real life? A radio personality hanging with a group like this for a weekend, in one of the biggest party towns in the world, is bound to be pretty awkward. I will not judge them yet… they may surprise me because of all the suppressed partying they are holding within, due to so much studying and schooling.
