Box office weekend news… Monica passes out at concert… Golden Bachelor wedding… Celebrity breakups… and Cardi B reveals she was ‘fighting’ illness

According to Deadline, Wonka rang in the 4-day New Year weekend as the No. 1 movie at the box office. In its third weekend of release, Wonka took in estimated $31.8M — final numbers will come out later today and some experts believe it will actually be a little lower than that. Despite all the negative reviews, people still want to see Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. In its second weekend, Aquaman took in another $23.5M for a second place finish. Illumination and Universal’s Migration placed third with $22M, followed by The Color Purple, with another $15M. It’s a tough call for fourth place. We won’t know for sure until the final numbers are in, but as of right now, the George Clooney-directed The Boys in the Boat sits in fourth place with $11.2M and Anyone But You is in fifth with $11M. By the way, the last weekend of the year pushed the movie industry past $9 billion at the box office for the year in the US and Canada, and that’s the first time this has happened since before the pandemic. It doesn’t come close to the $11B+ years leading up to the pandemic, but it’s a very positive sign.

A lot of prayers were going up for Monica Saturday after she appeared to pass out during her show in Houston. A lot of people say something “seemed off” about Monica during her performance. TMZ has video of her singing her 1999 hit Angel of Mine and then walking off to the side of the stage where it looks like she fainted into the arms of a crew member. She was then rushed out to an ambulance, but we don’t know anything beyond that. This has actually happened to Monica before. Many years ago, when she was 18, Monica was performing in Washington, DC, when she says she felt like she was going to pass out. She described it as, “Everything in front of me basically began to go from color to black-and-white, fading in and out. I walked to the side of the stage to ask for help and collapsed into one of our staff people’s arms.” She reportedly was hospitalized for almost a month before doctors diagnosed her with mitral valve prolapse, which occurs when the flap that separates the upper and lower chambers of the heart doesn’t close properly.

Before The Golden Globes this Sunday night, we get The Golden Wedding! Or WILL we?? This Thursday night, the very recently engaged Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist are supposed to be married live on ABC, but sources say things aren’t exactly blissful behind the scenes. Apparently, it has a lot to do with a prenup. One of them wants it, the other one doesn’t. But in a shocking twist, THERESA is the one who wants the prenup! A source told OK! Magazine that Gerry is offended because he thinks that means Theresa doesn’t trust him. But how could she? The day before we found out Theresa was getting his final rose, all these women came forward to say Gerry had been lying about not dating anyone since his wife died. In fact, one woman claimed Gerry’s wife had only been dead a few weeks when he put the moves on her. And then after they moved in together, she claims he refused to take her to his high school reunion because she gained 10 pounds, which led to their breakup. Sources say Theresa still wants to stick it out, even though her friends think she’s marrying Gerry for all the wrong reasons. But wouldn’t it be “the most shocking live Bachelor or Bachelorette wedding ever” if one of them calls of the wedding on live TV???

There were a lot of celebrity breakups over our holiday break! Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny won’t be making Baby Bunnies…Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka called it quits after 7 years of dating…and after over a year of separation, Backstreet Boy AJ McLean and his wife Rochelle have decided their 12-year marriage is over. But on the flip side, Demi Lovato announced her engagement to Canadian singer and songwriter Jordan Lutes. And Robert Pattinson proposed to Suki Waterhouse, who is expecting their first child this spring.

Back on Dec. 4, right after people started noticing that Cardi B and Offset had unfollowed each other, she posted on her IG Stories, “You know when you just outgrow relationships. I’m tired of protecting people’s feelings…I GOTTA PUT MYSELF FIRST!” A few days later, Cardi went on IG Live and admitted that she’d “been single for a minute,” but said she didn’t really know how to let her followers know until now. But fans were confused when they saw Cardi and Offset hanging out together over the holidays, and some started questioning whether they’d reconciled. This past Friday night, Cardi lost it on a live X rant, yelling, “Did I say I was back together with somebody??” Then after cussing out her “(BLANKING) fan base” for talking ish about her relationship status, Cardi posted, “I must be a lil toxic cuz I enjoyed cursing ya out today…but we not taking that into 2024. Now have a good day. No make it a bad day!” Two nights later, Cardi B was in Miami to perform as part of Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve special, but said she was so sick, she was “literally fighting for my life right now.” However, she must’ve gotten a visit from Dr. Feel Good because right after her performance, Cardi was making it rain with Offset inside a Miami strip club. Later, Cardi admitted that she and Offset hooked up in the marital sense, but insists they are not back together. However, WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO QUESTION CARDI IN ANY WAY ABOUT THIS. Some people are looking at all this drama with a side eye. As one fan posted, “There you have it. Cardi B couldn’t stand all the attention and love Nicki Minaj and her album has been getting so she pulled yet another publicity stunt lying about her and Offset splitting. However, it was a lie the whole time. The desperation is at an ALL TIME HIGH.”
