Nicki Minaj Pays Fans’ College Tuition

Weekend box office news… The MTV Movie Awards… Chris Rock admitted to cheating… Kanye West deletes social media… and Nicki Minaj pays fans’ college tuition

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” was a big hit in its debut weekend, taking in $145 million. That’s over $35 million more than the original earned its opening weekend. Waaaaaaayyyyyy behind in second place was “The Fate of the Furious” with $8.5 million. Coming in third was “Boss Baby” with another $6.2 million.

Because there’s just too much good television to be ignored, MTV expanded the MTV Movie Awards to the MTV Movie & TV Awards. “Beauty and the Beast” won Movie of the Year and “Stranger Things” won Show of the Year. And rather than breaking it down into Best Actor and Actress, MTV is putting all the male and female nominees into one pot. And winning Best Actor in a Movie was Emma Watson for “Beauty and the Beast” and Millie Bobby Brown won Best Actor in a Show for “Stranger Things.” A few other winners from last night — “RuPaul’s Drag Race” won Best Reality Competition. Best Fight Against the System was the movie “Hidden Figures.” The Tearjerker award went to Milo Ventimiglia and Lonnie Chavis, for that scene with Jack and Randall at karate on “This Is Us.” And what everyone always looks forward to — Best Kiss. That went to Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome in “Moonlight.”

Millie Bobby Brown accepts the award for Best Actor in a Show.

In his latest comedy routine, Chris Rock admits he was a very bad boy during his marriage. Chris admitted to cheating on his now ex-wife with three different women — one famous, one semi-famous and one who was “a member of the retail class.” Now sources are identifying the famous one as Kerry Washington. One source told Page Six that Chris started seeing Kerry while they were filming the movie “I Think I Love My Wife” which, ironically, was about a husband who fantasized about cheating on his wife. Chris was married but separated at the time, but Kerry was engaged to an actor named David Moscow.

Kanye West has deleted his Twitter and Instagram accounts. No explanation was given. It was strange timing, considering it was the day before he and Kim Kardashian launched their Kids Supply clothing line. You can check it out at www.thekidssupply.com, but there’s really not much on there. And what’s on there isn’t exactly cheap. Or practical.

Nicki Minaj went on a bit of a spending spree Saturday, paying school bills for some of her fans on Twitter. She tweeted, “Show me straight A’s that I can verify w/ur school and I’ll pay it.” Then she went on to pay for student loans, tuition and school supplies! For instance, one asked for $350 to pay for a summer program alongside proof of her 4.0 GPA. Nicki replied, “Of course.” She went on to pay random expenses for at least 21 fans and told others to send her more details. And it looks like she’s planning to keep this up for another month or two, so get in your request now!
